RAMYA 19 | THE 19TH MELODY OF EMOTION

In ancient musical philosophy, the world was not measured by the length of time, but by the subtle vibrations of emotional microtones known as Śruti. These delicate resonances were believed to sustain the human spirit as it moved through the transformations of life. Ramya 19, a series of 19 abstract paintings, translates these subtle vibrations into a visual journey—where time becomes rhythm, and emotion takes tangible form through color, texture, and line.

Ramya 19 does not seek to replicate observable reality. Instead, it is an act of listening to the inner movements of the mind and spirit. Each of the 19 paintings exists as an independent expressive space, unfolding sequentially like the rhythmic beats of an extended musical composition.

The series is driven by a diversity of rhythmic structures. Some works carry a rapid, fragmented rhythm, constructed through geometric marks, linear gestures, and contrasting accents of color. Others unfold at a slower, more spacious pace, allowing layers of gentle color to dissolve and flow freely. Elsewhere, the restrained rhythm gives way to an intense release of energy through the expressive use of thickly built-up paint and impasto.

In the ancient Sanskrit tradition, Ramya is associated with the nineteenth note, evoking the idea of a “beauty that moves the soul” or “radiant serenity.” When the preceding tonalities have passed through experimentation, tension, and the accumulation of energy, the nineteenth work emerges as a moment of synthesis. Here, the intensity and stillness of color find their own inner order, making space for the revelation of light and a profound sense of peace.

As one moves through the series, words gradually give way to intuitive perception. Ramya 19 becomes a space where hearing can see the beauty of form, and sight can listen to the melody of time.

It is both a profound tribute to the journey that has come before and a quiet, resolute step toward the infinite possibilities of creative exploration that lie ahead.
